Autel Ultra Configure a Used 2017 Ford Escape PCM

Since there was an error code P0001 on 2017 Ford Escape. After troubleshooting, I want to replace its PCM to attempt erase the code. So next I'll use the Autel Maxisys Ultra to configure the replaced PCM.

Step1.Look at the OEM procedure

1. Upload the module information from the diagnostic tool using the programmable modules installation routine.
2. Note PCM installation DOES NOT require new keys or programming of keys, only a parameter reset of the PATS.
3. Refer to: Passive Anti-Theft System(PATS) Parameter Reset.

Step2. Configure the used PCM
After acquiring VIN, let's continue
OK >> Programming/Customization >> Programmable module installation >> PCM
Press "Yes" to confirm VIN.
Set ignition switch to OFF(Position 0).
Install a new module in vehicle.



Step3. Locate PCM
This diagram is where the PCM is located on vehicle.

1. Remove the retainers and the PCM cover.
2. Detach the wiring harness grommet.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the PCM.

Step4. Parameter Reset

How to reset parameter on Autel Ultra?
Press "OK" after installation.
Ensure vehicle battery is in good condition and all accessories are turned off.
Calibration has been loaded and checked.

Network DTCs(Diagnostic Trouble Codes)(U-codes) may have been set during programming.
Operation action.
Run the on-demand Read Code and clear all DTCs(Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
All CMDTCs(Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
Fix all relevant DTCs(Diagnostic Trouble Codes) that start with "U" are faults which occur during module-to-module communication.

If required, obtain and a reprogramming label and complete with the following information:
Place the complete label in a complete position.

Set ignition switch to OFF(Position 0).

Automatic scan >> Fault scan >> List >> Quick erase
The PCM fault code is not even listed on here right now.



Control unit >> Trouble codes >> Key On Engine Off (KOEO) - Read on - demand codes
The vehicle must be prepared for Read Codes.
Instructions
* Do not activate vehicle switches during Test.

Ensure the following initial conditions are met:
* Vehicle is not moving.
* The transmission range selector lever should be in the PARK position.
* Engine cooling fan may operate during Read Code.

The error code is a P161A incorrect response from immobilizer control module. This is directly correlated.

Turn ignition to the ON position.
Note:
To perform the Program Addition Ignition Key function, you have to gain security access using the addition ignition key.
If the vehicle is equipped with a pushbutton start, continue with testing even if the ignition is turned off.

Is the vehicle is equipped with pushbutton start? No
Confirm VIN, press "Yes" to continue.  
Press "Parameter reset(BCM/ABS/PCM)".

PCM module fails on security 27.
Most of the time Ford(-2013) is able to do the parameter reset while 2014 or above models are not. At this point, I advise to use the Ford FJDS software.



How to reset parameter in Ford FJDS?
The Ford FJDS software has the parameter reset and it is connected to Ford servers.
Read tool box >> PATS functions
Turn ignition to the ON position.
Note:
To perform the Program Additional Ignition Key Function, you have to gain security access using the addition key.
If the vehicle is equipped with the pushbutton start, continue with testing even if the ignition is turned off.



Is the vehicle is equipped with pushbutton start? No
Confirm VIN, click "Yes" to continue.
Parameter reset(BCM/ABS/PCM) >> Dealer >> Yes
Login account to obtain PATS KEY CODE INQUIRIES LEFT 0028.
Security access granted.
Click "Yes" to perform parameter reset.
Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
Turn the ignition to the ON position.
Open the driver's door. Close and lock all the doors then wait until the vehicle console completely shuts off.
If the engine still cannot start, disconnect the battery and wait for 10 minutes before reconnect.
Test complete.
Turn the ignition to OFF position.
Procedure successfully completed!



Summary

1. When replacing a PCM, make sure the tear tag info is the same.
2. Make sure read and repair procedure before your program.
3. If the Autel Ultra can't do the parameter reset, use the Ford FJDS.
4. You need to have a locksmith credentials.
